Privacy
How your data is handled when you use this site.
Geotechnical Toolbox does not collect, store, or transmit your engineering inputs, project data, or uploaded files. All calculations happen entirely on your device.
Every calculation — bearing capacity, consolidation, earth pressure, pile analysis, GIS conversions, and everything else — executes in your browser using JavaScript. Your inputs stay on your machine for the duration of your session and are not sent anywhere.
Essential storage. Simple preferences, such as your colour theme, unit system, calculation-sheet details, your cookie choice and whether you chose to continue with an ad blocker on, are saved in your browser's localStorage. This stays on your device and does not need consent.
NPPE practice exam. Your answers, scores, bookmarked and ignored questions, the exam in progress and your exam settings are kept in the same browser storage and are never sent to us. A backup file you download is created on your device and contains only question IDs, results and settings.
Analytics. If you accept analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and tool usage, with IP anonymisation. It sets cookies (for example _ga) and sends usage data to Google. It never receives your engineering inputs or uploaded files.
Advertising. Ads may be shown. Without your consent they are non-personalised (based on the page, not on you) and no advertising profile is built. If you accept personalised advertising, Google and its ad partners may use cookies and similar data to show ads relevant to you.
Nothing beyond essential storage is set before you choose. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time:
The web server that delivers these pages may retain standard access logs — such as request timestamps and IP addresses — for uptime monitoring and security purposes. These logs contain no engineering inputs or project-specific data.
Europe and the UK (GDPR / UK GDPR / ePrivacy). Analytics and advertising cookies are used only with your prior, freely given consent. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the site works fully either way. You may withdraw consent at any time, and you have the rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Canada (PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25). Optional tracking technologies are off until you opt in. You can withdraw consent at any time and ask what personal information is held about you.
United States (California CCPA/CPRA and other state laws). We do not sell personal information. Personalised advertising, which can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising, is off unless you opt in, and we honour the Global Privacy Control browser signal as an opt-out. You can also use the cookie settings above at any time.
Your consent choice is stored in your browser with its date and is requested again after 12 months. Questions or requests: see the contact page.
